Why we gather
Thirty minutes, held the night before every execution.
Beginning September 15 at 8pm CT, The Church of the Condemned will hold a thirty-minute online vigil the night before every execution in the United States.
This is an intentionally open space for people of all faiths and for those of no faith.
The order is simple.
Order of vigil

The length of it is the point.
The word

Scripture chosen for the guilty, plus the condemned person’s own words when they exist.
The litany
5 min
The names of everyone executed in the United States this year, answered each time with “God, have mercy.”
The homily
5 min
The message each night is the same: this killing is heresy because it denies that grace flows from this person.
The prayers
4 min
For the person, for the family of the person they killed, for the executioners, and for the governor who could stop it. We will pray that the execution does not happen.
The sending
3 min
A benediction that ends with a sending forth to work for a rebirth of love and an end to executions.
